Lipophagy is a function that maintains intracellular lipid metabolism in Eukaryotic cells and is a selective autophagy of of lipid droplets. Lipophagy is achieved by distributing lipid droplets from the cytsol to the lytic compartment. The control of Lipophagy is being used to further prevent and treat diseases such as: obesity, atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome of aging, and fatty liver.
