Spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents (siPSC) are electrical events that occur following the spontaneous release of neurotransmitters. These events result from the flow of negative ions into the cell or positive ions out of the cell. A siPSC decreases the odds of a postsynaptic action potential occurring.
