Stendhal syndrome is a rare psychosomatic condition in which art, architecture, or other objects of beauty cause symptoms such as an elevated heart rate, chest pains, disorientation, and even hallucinations. The true existence of Stendhal syndrome remains a matter of debate in the field of psychology, although symptoms said to be a result of the condition can sometimes be serious enough to be life-threatening.
