Surgical Grafts
A surgical graft is a tissue that is removed from the body and transferred to another part of the body or to another individual without its own blood supply. Once transferred, a new blood supply grows to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the graft. There are four types of grafts: (1) autograft (from one part of the body to another part of the body of the same individual), (2) isograft (from one individual to an individual with the genetic profile, such as an identical twin), (3) allograft (from one individual to a genetically non-identical individual of the same species, and (4) xenograft (from one individual to an individual of another species).
