The Oil Industry and the Environmentalists

Two different environmental issues at opposite ends of the climate debate sit not far from each other in North Dakota and Montana. The town of Williston North Dakota has seen the oil industry boom that has brought economic prosperity to many. Jobs in the oil fields were plentiful and revenue from that industry pretty much built the town, the new high school and other features that residents enjoy. However, stricter environmental regulations slowed the oil boom and that hasn't been well received by those employed in the industry.

Just 500 miles away in Glacier National Park in Montana, tourists are educated on the devastation that warmer weather, brought about by burning fossil fuels, has caused there. When temperatures start to trend upwards over time, the glaciers melt and recede. Experts from the U.S. Geological Survey estimate that if current models continue, Glacier National Park may not contain any glaciers. The actions of two opposing forces, the oil industry and the environmental lobby, are being played out daily in this area. With the new administration, it will be an area to watch.
