A Ketogenic Drink

WRITTEN BY: Carmen Leitch

Diet trends are nothing new. It seems like every few years, another one comes along that promises to be the answer to our nutritional needs. Along those lines, a new drink has been released that promises to provide energy without disrupting blood sugar levels - because it is ketogenic.

Blood sugar, the level of glucose in blood, changes according to what we eat and is a critical metric of health. High blood sugar or hyperglycemia can cause health problems if left unchecked. Hence, a drink that provides energy without messing with blood sugar.

The drink is a beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is a pure ketone ester. So-called ketogenic diets, which can be adopted by manipulating food intake or ingesting this type of drink, are high in fats and low in sugars. While they are sometimes recommended for people with certain medical conditions, there do not appear to be any tangible benefits for healthy people that adopt this kind of diet.
