Bald Eagle and Fox Fight for Prey in Mid-Air

Imagine you're a fox and you just scored an excellent rabbit dinner. Now, imagine a bald eagle swooping down from above and attempting to steal your prey right out from your mouth.

The chances of such a thing transpiring seem incredibly low, but that's precisely what photographer Zachary Hartje captured on camera at San Juan Island National Historical Park last week.

Here, we can see the eagle's powerful grip lifting the entire fox in the air for several feet. It's unclear from the fuzzy footage which animal escaped with the rabbit dinner, but we're sure it was a terrifying ride for the fox either way.

Nature can be brutal... yet fascinating.
