Portland is generating electricity from city water pipes

The video above talks about a new technology for generating electricity: environmental-friendly water pipes. Portland, Oregon partnered with Lucid Energy to innovate municipal water pipes that will generate clean electricity for the city using the water that already flows under the city streets! Lucid Energy has commented that this project is the first in the US of its kind.

How does it work? Portland has refitted part of its water supply network using special pipes that have 4 pieces of 42-inches turbines. As water flows through the pipes, the turbines spin and produce power which is attached to generators, which, then, supply energy to the city’s electrical grid. Pretty amazing, right? Watch the video to learn more about this environmental innovation!
