Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common disease that affects as many as 900,000 Americans yearly with an estimated 60,000 - 100,000 Americans dying each year as a result of VTE. D-Dimer levels indicates clotting cascade activation and fibrinolysis; it is the best assay to rule out VTE but it also comes with its challenges. The session will cover the clinical significance and guidelines of D-Dimer assays and factors that can affect interpretation of results.
