Abstract
In the United States, over 40,000 transplantations are performed annually. Ensuring post-transplant success requires diligent monitoring of infectious diseases that are associated with a wide range of pathology including organ graft failure and death. CMV and EBV are opportunistic viruses with high prevalence. Infections from these viruses can be asymptomatic or in some cases may cause mild symptoms in immunocompetent individuals but can lead to significant complications in those who are immunocompromised e.g. patients post-transplant. For this reason, post-transplantation monitoring of CMV and EBV viral load plays an important role in the management of transplant recipients.

Learning Objectives
  • Clinical review of the CMV and EBV disease landscape
  • Discuss the importance of accurate quantitation of transplant viral load markers and impact to patient care
  • Assess laboratory workflow considerations for transplant viral load markers
  • Evaluate performance of Alinity m CMV and EBV viral load assays
