    Biography
      Jürgen Zimmermann is Senior Engineer Automation at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL; Heidelberg, Germany) in the Genomic Core Facility headed by Vladimir Benes. He studied business biology and administration in Bonn and Kaiserslautern and holds his Ph.D. in Biology. He is active in the areas of lab-automation, LIMS, Biochemical process development optimization in the area of nucleic acid sequencing since 1989. One of his current interests is high throughput automation of single cell sequencing

    Core facilities have to find their way between company promises, reality, their needs and economical constraints. Platforms have to fulfil the requirements for a multitude of protocols in a real full walk-away mode.

    Querying the human genome and transcriptome at the single-cell level reveals not only a deep insight into cellular dynamics, but requires also a high degree of automation to generate NGS libraries reliably and in a high throughput fashion.
