Abstract

Diagnosis, prognostication, and monitoring of child health relies on laboratory testing, including but not limited to key markers of thyroid, hepatic, cardiac, hematology, and renal function. Dynamic physiological processes during growth and development significantly influence paediatric biochemistry, altering expected values of common laboratory tests. In this webinar, we will discuss the importance of age- and sex-specific blood test interpretation in children and adolescents and provide an overview of the Canadian Laboratory Initiative on Paediatric Reference Intervals (CALIPER), including its recent works towards closing this gap.

Learning Objectives:

1.    Discuss the importance of age- and sex-specific blood test interpretation in children and adolescents.

2.    Introduce the Canadian Laboratory Initiative on Paediatric Reference Intervals (CALIPER).

3.    Discuss recent data closing the gaps in pediatric reference standards on various analytical platforms and future directions.
