Sr. Scientific Affairs Manager, Roche Diagnostic Corporation
Biography
Jamie obtained her Masters and PhD from the University of Georgia, in Infectious Diseases. During her graduate studies she focused on Coronavirus viral genome annotation and identification of genes associated with pathogenicity. In between her Masters and PhD program she spent time in Ghana aiding the Ministry of Health with developing a vaccine program for women and children. Following her graduate studies, she held a two-year postdoctoral position serving as the primary molecular virologist in a small diagnostic lab, while concurrently serving as an Associate professor of biology at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC). At GGC she taught a microbiology lab and lecturer. In the diagnostic lab she utilized primary virus isolation, serum neutralization assays, and real time PCR to investigate the origin of outbreaks and the evolution of the pathogens. After her postdoctoral position, she held a brief research associate position at the University of California Davis (UC Davis) where she aided in validating diagnostic assays and looking at the role co-infections play with influenza viruses. She left UC Davis for a small biotech company located in southern California looking to relocate to Eatonton, Ga. In 2014, Jamie joined Aalto Scientific, where she served as the Director of Research. Aalto Scientific is a privately owned manufacturer of control and calibration material for clinical chemistry analyzers. During her time there she oversaw the Research and Development department's relocation serving as the primary source of knowledge transfer for all open design control projects. Due to the relocation, she was able to hire an entire R&D team that was successful in transferring more than five projects to production and two of these projects receiving FDA 510K clearance. This position enabled her to obtain a broad knowledge of clinical chemistry lab analyzers and point of care test (POC). During her time at Aalto she also enjoyed giving back by giving industry guest lectures for the BioChemical Engineering Program at UGA. In 2017, Jamie joined Roche Diagnostics in their Medical and Scientific Affairs Division in Fishers, Indiana supporting their molecular POC devices. In this current role she oversees the Medical Plan and investigator initiated studies associated with the cobas Liat, a CLIA waived molecular POC device. Additionally, she currently serves as a subject matter expert for respiratory pathogens and antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.Starting in early January, Jamie joined Roche's Emergency Response team and has been playing an integral role, from a scientific perspective, on the launch of Roche's SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics assays.
