Dr. Nam Tran is Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UC Davis Health. He's a board-certified high complexity laboratory director in clinical chemistry with expertise in point-of-care testing. Dr. Tran received his bachelor's of science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from UC Davis in 2003. Thereafter he completed a PhD in Comparative Pathology and a MS degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology also from UC Davis. From 2009-2011, he completed postdoctoral training under an NIH/NIBIB funded Point-of-Care Technologies Research Center focused on developing novel infectious disease tests for critical, emergency and disaster care. More recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Tran developed the SARS-CoV-2 testing strategy at UC Davis Health -- deploying several high throughput and rapid point-of-care PCR SARS-CoV-2 testing platforms over a short period of time. He also continues to serve as a member of both the California COVID-19 Testing Task Force, and University of California Health COVID-19 Workgroup
