Abstract

Testing solutions for CoV-2 have had to evolve as the pandemic creates challenges and opportunities for various technologies to support the ongoing need to quickly and accurately identify active CoV-2 infections. RT-PCR has been traditionally utilized as the early diagnostic tool for clinicians but other options like Antigen testing have emerged that may provide a more cost effective and timely solution. This presentation describes current CDC guidelines for SARS-CoV-2 Ag testing and compares current point-of-care vs. high-throughput SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing to molecular approaches. Best practices and considerations for various patient populations for SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing are  explored as well.

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe Centers for Disease Control and Prevent current guidelines on SARS-CoV-2 Ag testing
  • Identify best practices for SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing
  • Compare point-of-care versus high-throughput SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing compared to molecular approaches
  • Discuss considerations for using SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing in asymptomatic vs symptomatic populations in resource limited settings
