    Biography
      Carl Dargitz received his Master's degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in stem cell research in 2013. During that time he worked as an intern at The Salk Institute in Dr. Inder Verma's lab under the tutelage of Dr. Amy Firth. His Master's thesis project involved differentiating iPSCs into lung airway epithelium to study Cystic Fibrosis. From 2013-2016 he worked at the stem cell core facility at The Salk Institute managing the core's reprogramming services. In August 2016 he joined the stem cell R&D team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Scientist II developing reprogramming, PSC characterization, and immunoncology characterization products.

    Abstract

    Thermo Fisher Scientific has developed an advanced assay to qualify FBS for use with ESCs.  This assay is designed to sustain undifferentiated ES cells while maintaining karyotype integrity, LIF responsiveness and pluripotency markers.  ES Cell FBS Qualified, has proven applications in reprogramming, pluripotency marker maintenance, and PSC morphology maintenance.  When compared to competing products, it shows superior performance with regard to morphology and maintenance of pluripotency. The stringency of this assay provides researchers with the highest quality FBS for use in ES cell culture.
