  • Senior Director, Molecular Applications
    Biography
Aaron Benfield has over 20 years experience in molecular biology applications within industrial, public health, and academic settings. He is currently the Senior Director of Molecular Applications at Luminex, where he leads a team of Molecular Application Specialists that perform product implementation of Luminex technology at diagnostic customer sites. Aaron is also involved in various aspects of customer development, scientific affairs, as well as marketing and sales activities.
Prior to his current role, Aaron received his B.S. and Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Texas at Austin, studying the energetics of biomolecular structure. He then went on to be a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas/MD Anderson Cancer Research Center where he studied DNA damage and mutagenesis. Aaron then moved on to become the Molecular Biology Group Manager at the Texas Department of State Health Services, where he oversaw molecular testing for diagnostic and epidemiological purposes.
    • Senior Director, Global Scientific Affairs
      Biography
Dr. Dunbar received a B.S. degree in Microbiology and Immunology, and a MBA from the University of Maryland. She completed a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of South Alabama and a post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical and Public Health Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine. She was then the clinical laboratory director at Virus Reference Laboratory in Houston, Texas. Dr. Dunbar joined Luminex as a Senior Scientist in 1999 and served as Senior Director of the Biology Research and Development group for eight years. This group developed assay protocols, techniques, and helped to determine the best practices for xMAP Technology. During this time, the laboratory developed more than one hundred multiplexed assay panels for proteins, nucleic acids and other biomolecules. Currently, Dr. Dunbar is the Senior Director of Global Scientific Affairs for Luminex. She has more than forty publications in the peer-reviewed literature and numerous abstracts presented at scientific conferences.

      Abstract

Join us and hear from two Luminex® experts on our flexible solutions for molecular diagnostics. Dr. Sherry Dunbar and Dr. Aaron Benfield will describe our NxTAG® bead-based nucleic acid chemistry and the ARIES® sample-to answer real-time PCR instrument. Learn about the assays available from Luminex for SARS-CoV-2 detection: the NxTAG CoV Extended Panel and the ARIES SARS-CoV-2 Assay.

      Learning Objectives:

      1. Understand the assay technologies available from Luminex

      2. Learn about the SARS-CoV-2 molecular assays developed by Luminex
