Abstract
In this 15-minute podcast, Dr. Anne Wyllie, Research Scientist in Epidemiology at Yale School of Public Health, discusses saliva testing research and why saliva is well-suited for the monitoring of infectious diseases. Dr. Wyllie draws comparisons between nasopharyngeal swabs and saliva, touching on the advantages and disadvantages of both. In addition to this, she uncovers how saliva can improve patient compliance, lab throughput, and asymptomatic detecting- without breaking budget.
In 2021, Wyllie was awarded the COVID-19 Research Award from the Yale School of Public health. Although, it was an uphill battle as she and her team began research in 2020. In this podcast, Wyllie describes the obstacles and successes faced in that time. Wyllie’s recent publications include- Saliva or Nasopharyngeal Swab Specimens for Detection of SARS-CoV-2 and Saliva as a gold-standard sample for SARS-CoV-2 detection.
