Neuron-derived extracellular vesicles (NDEVs) provide a huge opportunity to understand the biochemistry of brain cells in living patients. L1CAM is a transmembrane protein expressed in neurons, presumably found on NDEVs in human biological fluids. Previous studies have used immunoseparation of L1CAM from human plasma to isolate NDEV for the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.
