    Adaptive laboratory evolution

Adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) is a technique used to generate new microbial strains that have evolved to express desired trains. ALE applies Darwinian principles of natural selection to produce new forms of bacteria, fungi, and microalgae used for research to understand biological pathways and the manufacturing of products, including ethanol and butanal.
