    Taste cell

Taste cells, also known as taste buds or gustatory cells, are located on the tongue and contain taste receptors. Taste buds detect nutrients and toxins in the mouth and transmit information to nerve endings. There are four types of receptors, sweet, bitter, savory, and sour, expressed in different sets of taste buds.
