    Temperature management

Targeted temperature management (TTM) is an active medical treatment aimed at maintaining a specific body temperature to improve health outcomes during recovery from conditions associated with a lack of blood flow to the brain. Conditions such as strokes or cardiac arrest cause periods of poor or no blood flow to the brain and the more time the brain spreads without blood, the greater the risk of irreparable tissue damage. TTM puts a patient's body in a slightly hypothermic state during which oxygen demand by the brain is reduced and the production of free radicals, which can cause tissue damage, develop slower. TTM can be carried out by many methods, including cooling blankets, cooling helmets, and ice packs.
