A wave of plastic is washing over the DR

Footage from a video taken by “Parley for the Ocean” on July 14, 2018, shows an actual wave of plastic washing over the shores of Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. The group, which is working with over 500 volunteers to clear the plastic from the ocean, says over 30 tons were taken away in the first three days, but there was still more work to do.

Carmen Danae Chamorro of Parley for the Ocean commented, “This is not new news in Santo Domingo…this situation happens every time it rains.” But the footage from the video clip puts the reality of our plastic crisis right in your face. How would you like to swim in that water? Want to learn more about plastics in our ocean? Watch this video to educate yourself on microplastics!
