NASA Reveals Earth Has a Second, Hidden Moon

WRITTEN BY: Xuan Pham

The moon we know and love is pretty awesome. It stabilizes the Earth's rotation, and it makes the tides ebb and flow. Not to mention, everyone can appreciate the beauty of harvest moon. So wouldn't be great if we had second moon?

It turns out, NASA found a "mini moon" that's been orbiting Earth for almost a century! But astronomers have only recently discovered this little guy, which they officially named Asteroid 2016 HO3. Earth's new companion is a "quasi-satellite" that's no larger than 300 feet across. And this mini moon has a special orbit that astronomers dub as a "little dance" with Earth.

NASA expects 2016 HO3 will be Earth's dancing partner for centuries to come!
