  • Meera Chitlur, MD
    Professor of Pediatrics, Hematology & Oncology, Wayne State University School of Medicine
    Biography
      Dr. Meera Chitlur is Professor of Pediatrics and Barnhart-Lusher Hemostasis Research Endowed Chair at Wayne State University School of Medicine and practices in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the Children's Hospital of Michigan. She is the Director of the Hemophilia and Hemostasis Treatment Center and The Jeanne M.Lusher Special Coagulation Clinical Research Laboratory at Children's Hospital of Michigan. She earned her MBBS degree at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore, India and completed her postgraduate training as a pediatric resident at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. She then completed her fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Dr.Chitlur is a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), Hemophilia and Thrombosis Research Society (HTRS), and International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (ISTH). She was elected to membership on the National Hemophilia Foundation's (NHF) Medical and Scientific Advisory Council in 2014, nominated for the 2015 "America's Best Physicians" directory, elected to the HTRS Board of Directors in 2015, selected by peers for inclusion in Hour Detroit Magazine's list of "Top Docs", and won the Resident Teaching award in 2016. Her research interest is in global hemostasis assays, particularly Thromboelastography and Thrombin Generation. She is currently an Internationally recognized expert in Thromboelastography and has written the guidelines for performing Thromboelastography in Hemophilia. Dr. Chitlur has also authored approximately 60 peer reviewed publications, case reports, review articles, editorials, and book chapters.
    • James Groce III, Pharm. D, CACP
      Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Campbell University School of Pharmacy, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Clinical Pharm
      Biography
        James B Groce Ill, PharmD, CACP, is Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice at Campbell University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Groce also is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist-Anticoagulation at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he manages an anticoagulation clinic serving over 100 patients and supervises pharmacy practice and medicine residents training in anticoagulation management at this site. He served as principal investigator at Moses H. Cone Health System for DVT FREE, a national registry trial examining risk factors and prevalence of DW. Additionally, he was part of the II- member steering committee for this initiative. He represents pharmacy nationally on the Council for Leadership on Thrombosis Awareness and Management (CLOT Council) as its sole pharmacist member on this physician-based panel of National thought leaders and experts on thromboembolism as well as the Coalition Against DW in the same capacity. He was recently appointed to the Technical Advisory Panel of JCAHOINQF for creation of core measures for prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism. Most recently, he was named Preceptor of the Year by the graduating classes of 2006 and 2007, Campbell University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Groce has been published and cited in peer-reviewed medical and pharmacy journals as well as textbooks of pharmacy. He has presented extensively regarding the interchange of Narrow Therapeutic Index Drugs and its impact with respect to efficacy and safety, and pharmacoeconmics; he gave testimony before the state Senate and House Subcommittees of the North Carolina Legislature examining this issue that resulted in Senate Bill 945 - The Prescription Refill Safety Act. He is certified by the National Certification Board of Anticoagulation Providers and currently is a sitting member of its Board of Directors.
      • Neil Harris, MD
        Associate Professor, College of Medicine Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Florida
        Biography
          Dr. Neil S. Harris is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as clinical chemistry through the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. He is currently the director of the core (chemistry/hematology) laboratory, in addition to being a clinical associate professor at the Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine within the University of Florida's College of Medicine. Dr. Harris received his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. In the 1980s, his postgraduate training included a residency in clinical pathology (chemical pathology & immunology) in the Division of Pathology at the University of Cape Town. This was followed by a research fellowship in the Division of Hematology/Oncology and a fellowship in clinical chemistry at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Children's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He obtained his USA credentials in pathology by completing his residency at Fletcher Allen Health Care in at the University of Vermont in Burlington.
        • Thomas Webster, PhD
          Professor and Department Chair, Chemical Engineering, Art Zafiropoulo Chair in Engineering, Affiliated Faculty, Bioengineering, Northeastern University, College of Engineering
          Biography
            Thomas J. Webster's (H index: 80, Google Scholar) degrees are in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., 1995) and in biomedical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (M.S., 1997; Ph.D., 2000). Prof. Webster is the current director of the Nanomedicine Laboratories (currently at 23 members) and has completed extensive studies on the use of nanophase materials in medicine. He pioneered the use of nanomaterials to increase tissue growth, inhibit infection, and decrease inflammation. He was appointed Department Chair of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University in 2012 in which the Department recently broke the record for the fastest increase in ranking over a five year period from the U.S. News and World Report. In his 17 years in academics, Prof. Webster has graduated/supervised over 149 visiting faculty, clinical fellows, post-doctoral students, and thesis completing B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. students. To date, his lab group has generated over 13 textbooks, 68 book chapters, 376 invited presentations, at least 503 peer-reviewed literature articles and/or conference proceedings, at least 767 conference presentations, and 42 provisional or full patents. His research has led to the formation of 12 companies with 4 FDA approved nanomedicine products. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Nanomedicine (the first open-access, international journal in nanomedicine which has a 5-year impact factor of 5.03). Prof. Webster currently directs or co-directs several centers in the area of biomaterials: The Center for Natural and Tropical Biomaterials (Medellin, Colombia), The Center for Pico and Nanomedicine (Wenzhou China), and The International Materials Research Center (Soochow, China). He was named the Art Zafiropoulo Chair at Northeastern University for his contributions to nanomedicine in 2013. Prof. Webster has received numerous honors including but not limited to: 2012, Fellow, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE, representing the top 2% of all medical and biological engineers); 2013, Fellow, Biomedical Engineering Society; 2015, Wenzhou 580 Award; 2015, Zheijang 1000 Talent Program; 2016, International Materials Research Chinese Academy of Science Lee-Hsun Lecture Award; 2016, International College of Fellows, Biomaterials Science and Engineering; and 2016, Acta Biomaterialia Silver Award. He also served as the President of the U.S. Society For Biomaterials. He has appeared on BBC, NBC, ABC, Fox News, the Weather Channel, the Discovery Channel, and the recent special 'Year Million' TV series on National Geographic talking about the future of medicine and science.
