Keynote Presentation: Acidic Cannabinoids: Inactive Precursors or Powerful Therapeutics?

Abstract

While nearly all of the research on phytocannabinoids has focussed on decarboxylation products like THC and CBD, many are surprised to learn that the cannabis plant does not directly produce these compounds. The acidic cannabinoids produced by the plant, such as THCA and CBDA, have previously been considered inactive precursors to their more well-known counterparts, but increasing evidence demonstrates that these compounds have powerful therapeutic potential. In this presentation, Dr. Sulak reviews the preclinical and clinical literature demonstrating potent physiologic effects and high bioavailability of the acidic cannabinoids. He provides practical strategies for clinicians and patients to take advantage of the power of raw cannabis.
