Abstract

Laboratory implementation of clinical genomics in children requires customization of analytical tools tailored to profile the divergent mutational landscape in childhood tumors. The relative paucity of point mutations and the higher abundance of fusion genes, structural variation, and epigenomic alterations in pediatric tumors raise different challenges in clinical diagnostics. Multimodal genomic technologies combining DNA and RNA sequencing with methylation profiling is rapidly becoming the standard of care in correctly classifying tumors and identifying actionable alterations in childhood tumors.
