In addition to my teaching and service commitments, I am engaged in active microbiological research. This research are in the areas of microbial degradation, microbial community/plant interactions, microbial studies involving public health issues specifically waste-water treatment, and antimicrobial studies involving bacteriophage therapy.
I am an active member in the American Society for Microbiology having served as Regional Planning Coordinator for Region 7 (2007-2016) which oversees local ASM branches in the states of Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, California, and Hawaii.
I am also actively involved in the American Medical Technologists which oversees the development of certification exams including medical technologists, phlebotomy, and medical assisting. I am Vice-President for the Nevada State Society American Medical Technologists, and serve on the National Committee - Examinations, Qualifications, and Standards Committee as Chair for Microbiology.
