    Insect physiology

Insect physiology encompasses the functions and mechanisms of the organ systems within insects. Insects consist of three body regions: the head, thorax, and abdomen. The head includes compound eyes, mouth, and antennae. The thorax is made up of the pro, medo, and meta thorax which each support two legs used for locomotive functions such as jumping or swimming. The abdomen houses the organs needed for digestion and reproduction.
