    Sleep circuits

    Neural circuits are networks of neurons connected by synapses which, when activated by neurotransmitters, carry out a specific function. Sleep circuits control sleep and arousal. Sleep circuits are regulated by glutamate and gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurons located in the brain.
