Abstract

Cell-based assays are more biologically relevant than biochemical assays yet significantly more scalable than in vivo experiments.  However, care must be taken in sample preparation to ensure high quality results, and liquid handling automation is a key component of a robust assay workflow.  The Agilent Seahorse XFe96 Analyzer is a label-free metabolic analysis platform that enables simultaneous measurement of mitochondrial function and glycolysis, enabling assessment of metabolic phenotype in live cells.  This workshop will illustrate the use of an Agilent Bravo Liquid Handling Platform and assorted Microplates to prepare samples for Seahorse analysis.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand how and in what stages automated liquid handling can aid sample prep for cell-based assays
2. How energy production pathway knowledge contributes to understanding metabolic phenotype
3. How metabolic phenotype can be used to detect mitochondrial toxins
