    Biography

      Carly Barone is currently the Laboratory Manager for Bia Diagnostics’ Chemistry Laboratory located in Colchester, Vermont. She received her Ph.D. in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems from the University of Rhode Island where her research was focused on the use of phytochemicals to combat parasitic diseases. She also completed her post-doctoral fellowship with the United States Department of Agriculture where she continued this research to encompass the use of terpenes. Dr. Barone now oversees cannabis testing at Bia Diagnostics’ Chemistry Laboratory where she directs all analytical testing and method development.


    Abstract

    Cannabis testing laboratories play a pivotal role in today’s cannabis industry. These laboratories test a wide-ranging list of compounds, including cannabinoids, terpenes, and a multitude of contaminants. For a cannabis testing laboratory to be successful in providing accurate, timely, and quality results, an effective workflow is essential. The workflow outlined herein, will take the sample from receipt, through processing, data analysis, and reporting of results while incorporating all testing methodologies. Testing requirements and action limits are reviewed, including the implementation of the most current validated methods. As the cannabis industry continues to develop and grow, laboratories will need to adapt to changes in workflow, in order to maintain the highest standards in analysis as this industry evolves.
