Keynote Presentation: Multiplex Molecular Panels in Syndromic Infectious Diseases Testing

Speaker

Abstract

There are new generations of comprehensive multiplex molecular panels available for infectious diseases syndromic diagnostics. They are able to rapidly detect and identify the most common pathogens in blood, cerebrospinal fluid, stool and respiratory specimens. Use of multiplex molecular panels is associated with quicker turnaround time, reduction of other unnecessary laboratory tests, faster diagnosis and targeted treatment. Although with initial increase in supply laboratory costs some studies showed improvements in infection control and cost savings with reduced cost of care.

Learning Objectives:

1. Explain diagnostics by multiplex molecular panels
2. Asses impact, advantages and limitations
3. Identify the opportunities to improve testing
