Abstract

Mass spectrometry-based proteomics is a rapidly growing area of research that provides useful information for many fields including basic molecular biology, clinical diagnostics, and pharmaceutical drug development. In all of these fields, accurate quantification is pivotal to ensuring high data quality. This presentation will focus on using mass spectrometry to develop of quantitative assays for both targeted and untargeted bottom-up proteomics experiments. We will discuss experimental design for proteomics experiments and how to select your data acquisition mode. Methods for data collection will be presented with a focus on ways to ensure accurately quantitative values and common misconceptions and pitfalls of the data will be addressed. Techniques for system suitability and quality control will be presented and the use of these methods for quality assurance and standardization will be discussed.
