    Buffalo

Buffalo is a colloquial term for a large bovine called bison. There are two surviving species of bison: American bison, native to North America, and European bison, found in Europe and the Caucasus region. While bison are part of the tribe Bovina, they are distantly related to bubalina, also known as true buffalo, which are of the tribe Bovini.
