COVID-19 is the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, which has affected millions of people since its emergence in late 2019. Thought to spread via respiratory droplets, those at higher risk for serious medical complications due to COVID-19 are older adults and those with underlying medical conditions, such as heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes.
