    Natural variation

Natural, or genetic, variation is the occurrence of naturally occurring differences in DNA sequence between individuals of the same species. Natural variation arises as a result of random mutations which are passed from parent to offspring. Examples of natural variation among the human population include hair color, freckles, and blood type.
