Heart Attack Or Panic Attack? Knowing When To Seek Help

Chest pain, shortness of breath, and feelings of impending doom are all symptoms representative of both heart attacks and panic attacks. For this reason, it can be difficult for those with panic disorders to know when it’s appropriate to seek medical help. Those suffering from anxiety should try some relaxation techniques first but should not delay seeking medical help if symptoms worsen or persist. Also, continue experiencing chest pain should always seek medical attention in case they are in fact experiencing a cardiac incident.

 

Once admit to the ER, there are several tests can be performed to rule out a heart attack. These texts typically include a D dimer, electrocardiogram (EKG) and potentially a stress test.

The above video describes some of the symptoms to look out for as they are unlikely to occur in the event of a panic attack but are common to heart attacks and therefore should not be ignored.
