    Immune tolerance

Immune tolerance, or immunotolerance, occurs when the immune response does not activate in response to an insult, such as a virus or infection. Normally, the immune response is activated when it encounters a foreign insult, known as an antigen. Immune tolerance can be beneficial in preventing an immune response against towards self-antigens located in the body which could result in autoimmune diseases.
