A Core Laboratory is a centralized facility that provides access to testing used for clinical trial research. A Core Laboratory ensures that samples and specimens analyzed from multiple sites and researchers are analyzed using a standardized protocol and equipment in order to reduce variability. Instrumentation in a Core Laboratory differs based on the ongoing clinical trials needs but can include technology such as flow cytometers, equipment for image analysis such as fluorescent microscopes, and resources for specimen banking and analysis.
