    Cytokine biology

Cytokines are chemical messengers secreted by immune cells. Cytokine biology encompasses the processes and functions these proteins perform. Some cytokines activate the immune response while others inhibit immune function. When released by immune cells, cytokines interact with other cells in the body to elicit their unique effects.
