Veterinary, or Vet, Science is a branch of medicine that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries occurring in animals. In addition to dealing with disease, veterinary medicine also encompasses the science surrounding breeding and housing animals and studying nutrition and lifestyle factors that could benefit animal welfare. Institutions where animal research is performed employ veterinary scientists to oversee ethical treatment and welfare of animals used for research.
