    Adherent cells

Adherent cells are any of a variety of cell types that grow only when adhered to a culture vessel, such as a Petri dish or a flask. When adhered to the surface of the vessel, these cells will obtain the proper growth factors needed to thrive. Most cells need to be cultured in a similar mechanism to how they live within an organism. Thus, most adherent cell types were likely generated from cells that adhere to tissue in the body.
