Applications of mass spectrometry in metabolomics
Mass spectrometry is a laboratory technique which identifies the precise weight of a component in a sample. Metabolomics focuses on measuring the metabolites, the substances made when the body breaks down food or drugs, in a biological specimen. Advances in mass spectrometry have enabled its use for metabolic analyses involving the identification of low molecular weight metabolites.
