    Biography
      Dr. A.C. Matin got his Ph.D from University of California in Microbiology (1969). He is serving as the Chair of MS senate task force on posdoctoral affairs (2009- present), Member of MS senate steering committee (2008-present) & Senator of Medical School senate (2006-present). He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. He got 16 Honors and Awards which are Star Award in Environmental Protection Agency (1991-1997), Review Committee Member in Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (1992) and Foundation for Microbiology Lecturer in American Society for Microbiology (1991-1993). He has authored about 37 Publications that include review articles. His Community & International Work involved in Bacterial antibiotic resistance in space flight, Stanford University; NASA Ames and Nuclear waste remediation.
    • Christopher Heger, PhD
      Senior Manager, Applications Science at ProteinSimple, a Bio-Techne Brand
      Biography
        Chris Heger received his doctoral degree in Pharmacology from Cornell University, utilizing budding yeast as a model organism for studying exocytosis. Chris spent the next 3.5 years as a CCR/NCI/NIH Postdoctoral Fellow, working in the Antibody and Protein Purification Unit where he oversaw antibody development projects, from immunogen/epitope design to final product, for all NCI Principal investigators. A unique aspect of his postdoctoral training was his role in the evaluation of new technologies, serving as the gateway for cutting edge instrumentation to get into use at the NCI/NIH. Through this role, Chris became well-acquainted with Protein Simple. After completing his postdoctoral training, Chris began working for ProteinSimple. First, as a Field Applications Scientist for the Eastern USA and then as the Manager of Field Applications for Eastern USA, where he grew the team and laid solid foundations for future growth of the territory. In 2016, Chris began a new role, in sunny California, as the Manager of Applications Science, a new group chartered with fostering both external and internal collaborations, creating scientific collateral, and supporting various business units within ProteinSimple. Chris has a broad, in-depth knowledge of immunoassays of many 'flavors', capillary electrophoresis, and antibody design, production, and purification.
      • Simon Kaja, PhD
        Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Molecular Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Dr. John P. and Therese E. Mulcahy Endowed Professor in Ophthalmology, Loyola University Chicago
        Biography
          Dr. Kaja is the Dr. John P. and Therese E. Mulcahy Endowed Professor in Ophthalmology at Loyola University Chicago, where he holds appointments in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Molecular Pharmacology & Therapeutics. He is the Director of the Visual Neurobiology and Signal Transduction Laboratory, and member of the Burn/Shock Trauma Research Institute and the Neuroscience Division. In addition, Dr. Kaja is co-founder and CEO of K&P Scientific LLC, a Chicagoland-based life sciences consulting firm, and Chief Scientific Officer of Experimentica Ltd., a global preclinical contract research organization specializing in ocular disease models. Dr. Kaja's research interest focuses on in vitro and in vivo methods for ophthalmic drug discovery, with an emphasis on optic neuropathies and ocular surface disorders. Dr. Kaja has authored over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts, numerous book chapters and is a frequent consultant to the biotech and pharmaceutical industry.
        • Dennis Karthaus, MS
          Scientist and Team Leader, Cell Cultivation, IBA Life Sciences
          Biography
            Dennis Karthaus received his master's degree in biotechnology from the University of Applied Sciences in Bremerhaven. During his master's study at the department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, he worked on the development of a protein purification platform and in cell line development. In 2012, Dennis Karthaus joined IBA GmbH. He is responsible for the mammalian custom protein expression & purification service and the product development in this field.
          • Weimin Lin, PhD
            Principal Scientist, Ambrx
            Biography
              Weimin Lin earned a MD from Peking University Health Science Center which is the medical school of Peking University, and, a PhD from Georgia State University in cellular physiology program. After graduation, she joined Kinetic BioSystem Inc. and then KBI BioPharma which is a spin-out company of Kinetic Biosystems Inc., focusing on bioprocess development and clinical GMP manufacturing. In 2008, she joined Biogen cell culture development department pilot plant group and established small scale group in 2011 at RTP site. Currently, she is the principal scientist in cell culture development department at Ambrx. She leads the PD team to develop and optimize Ambrx unique EuCODE™ Cell Culture Platform including chemically-defined media, cell culture bioprocessing systems and biomanufacturing process modeling.
            • Buzz Lobbezoo
              Product Support & Development Manager at Prometic Bioseparations Ltd
              Biography
                As the Product Support & Development (PSD) Manager for Prometic Bioseparations Ltd, Buzz leads a small dedicated team providing full technical support and information for PBL's products. Buzz joined PBL in 2004 as a Research Scientist in the downstream purification team. In 2011 he became the Applications & Downstream Processing Specialist, and in 2016 was appointed the new role of PSD Manager. Buzz obtained his Biochemistry degree from University of Kent, then spent over 14 years in both the Research (University of Cambridge) and Biotech/Biopharmaceutical sectors (Adprotech, Metris and Celltech (now UCB)) before joining Prometic. He has significant product profiling and processing experience having worked on small-scale purification applications to large-scale manufacturing processes.
              • Jon Zmuda, PhD
                Director, Cell Biology, Life Sciences Solutions Group, Thermo Fisher Scientific
                Biography
                  Jonathan Zmuda is a Director of Cell Biology at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Frederick, Maryland. Jon leads a team dedicated to discovering and developing new technologies and products useful for cell biology applications, including transient protein expression, advanced cell culture, and rare-cell analysis. He received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Posters should be submitted as a PowerPoint file. Presentations should incorporate illustrative materials such as tables, graphs, photographs, and large-print text. This content is not peer-reviewed. Submission is free.
