LabRoots is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual 2020 Cannabis Sciences Virtual Event. LabRoots will host the event on March 25, 2020.     Medical Director, ForwardGro
    Biography
      Debra Kimless, M.D. graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Muhlenberg College with a double major in Natural Sciences and Biology. She attended medical school at Rutgers, and residency at Temple University Hospital and is a board-certified Anesthesiologist with a subspecialty certification in Pain Medicine and is recently board certified by the American/International Lifestyle Medicine Board. Motivated by her mother who, at the end of her life suffered with intractable pain and who responded paradoxically to opiates, Dr. Kimless traveled the world to learn if medical cannabis could have been a treatment option. She studied under the most respected experts in cannabis medicine and research and has become a passionate champion for medical cannabis. Currently she is the Chief Medical Officer for Pure Green, a medical cannabis company in Michigan where she formulates products and runs IRB approved clinical trials listed on www.clinicaltrials.gov. She is the Medical Director for ForwardGro, and Chief Science Officer for Merida Capital Partners. She serves as a volunteer faculty at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, and is a contributing writer for GRAM magazine. Her passion is to use education to de-stigmatize cannabis and explain how it may be used as an effective medical choice.

      Biography
        Arun Apte is a serial entrepreneur and laboratory research scientist specializing in bioinformatics. He founded CloudLIMS in 2014 bringing the benefits of a SaaS LIMS to the cannabis testing laboratory market. This has enabled several cannabis testing and extraction laboratories to manage data, automate testing workflows, and follow regulatory compliance, such as ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Arun is an invited speaker at cannabis conferences all over the world. He was an invited speaker at the 2019 Cannabis Science Conference West, the 2019 Cannabis Quality Conference & Expo, and the Southeastern 2019 Hemp & Medical Cannabis Convention. He is on the Labroots committee for their event, Cannabis Sciences 2020. Prior to founding CloudLIMS, he founded PREMIER Biosoft forging strategic partnerships with Thermo, Agilent, SCIEX and other mass spectrometry instrument companies. Arun Apte holds a B.A. in molecular and cell biology and biophysics from the University of California at Berkeley. He has published extensively on bioinformatics

        Laboratory Director, One Bond Laboratories / Toxicologist, SEA, Ltd.
        Biography
          As the Laboratory Director for One Bond Laboratories I am responsible for all analytical testing procedures performed by the laboratory. All technical work is done under my direction, and I am solely responsible for the final review and approval of all data prior to client release. I am responsible for all research conducted by the laboratory, whether that research involved method development or is project focused. I am also responsible for ensuring all laboratory personnel are properly trained and that training plans are developed and executed to match the work each employee performs in the laboratory. Finally, I am responsible for the overall laboratory space, including, but not limited to, quality of result, timeliness (turn-around-time), appearance, analytical readiness, laboratory accreditation, and laboratory safety. As a Toxicologist for SEA, Ltd., I am I am responsible for cases requiring the determination of the presence or absence of harmful or intoxicating chemicals, testing and analyzing data for harmful contaminants in our food or environment, and evaluating contributing factors in the cause and manner of death or illness. I evaluate exposures to and human health effects of microbial organisms, alcohol, drugs, metals, chemicals, pesticides, gases, and other occupational and environmental potential contaminants. Also, I evaluate, drug related cases including, but not limited to, intoxication, drug-related problems, hazardous drug combinations or overdoses, indications and contraindications, and drug labeling and warnings. Additionally, with experience in the laboratory and as a toxicologist, I assess laboratory procedures and testing methods to determine the integrity of relevant data and data collection methods for drug, pesticides, and other toxicological analysis.           Biography
            James Eaves received his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of California at Davis. He is currently a professor at Université Laval, where his research focuses on methods of improving the profitability of growing cannabis indoors at scale. He has worked with a number of large cannabis producers on various research projects, and he was the Head of R&D for Greenseal Cannabis Company.
          • Valérie Fournier PhD
            Professor, Université Laval (Québec, Canada)
            Biography
              Valerie Fournier is an entomologist who received her Ph.D. in 2003. She has been a professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences of Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada since 2007. She leads research on insect diversity, integrated pest management and arthropod control in several crops. She has some 20 years of experience helping growers control pests without using pesticides. She has published some 40 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, including high-impact magazines such as Science. She has recently started working on cannabis pests.
            • Michael Key
              Founder and CEO, Impello Biosciences
              Biography
                Michael Key is the founder and CEO of Impello Biosciences, a Colorado-based biotechnology company that specializes in the research and development of plant biostimulants. Their speciality line of biostimulant products currently includes growth-promoting bacteria, amino-acid rich organic fertilizers, and unique biochemical compounds that increase secondary metabolite production in cannabis. Michael's role in the company includes overseeing business development, creating strategic partnerships, and directing new product innovation, research, and development. Prior to co-founding Impello, Michael worked as the Director of Horticultural Research and Development for Functional Remedies, a vertically-integrated Colorado hemp company, where he developed and implemented agricultural protocols on 50+ acre farms in both Colorado and Kentucky. Additionally, Michael worked as a Research Assistant in the Center for Rhizosphere Biology at Colorado State University, where he also received his degree in Horticulture.

                Front Range Biosciences, Director of Process Development and Implementation
                Biography
                  Caleb King directs analytical testing and phytochemical method development at Front Range Biosciences. Currently, Caleb works closely with a multi-disciplinary team working to understand the biogeochemistry and metabolomics of high-value crops. Caleb received his Master of Science in marine sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Mount Union. He has over 10 years of combined experience in paleoclimate research, environmental chemistry, veterinary medicine, and cannabis science. Caleb directed cannabis regulatory testing operations, scaled production testing capabilities, and developed numerous analytical chemistry methodologies while at Steep Hill Hawaii and Steep Hill Labs in Berkeley, California. Caleb enjoys wilderness hiking and shipwreck diving.

                  Biography
                    Jiries Meehan-Atrash received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from SUNY New Paltz in 2014, and began pursuing a doctoral degree in chemistry at Portland State University in 2016 in the laboratory of Dr. Robert M. Strongin. Jiries branched from the nicotine e-cigarette chemical toxicology work to pursue the study cannabis e-cigarette aerosols and has authored five publications which have garnered 40 citations, and was named to receive the 2020 ElSohly Award for Excellence in Cannabis Science.
                  • Christine Paszko, PhD, MT (ASCP)
                    Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Accelerated Technology Laboratories, Inc.
                    Biography
                      Dr. Paszko is the Sr. Vice President at Accelerated Technology Laboratories, Inc. a LIMS, laboratory automation and informatics firm. She is an innovative, customer-centric leader with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with both technical and sales teams. She received her undergraduate degree in Medical Technology (MT ASCP), with a minor in Microbiology. Her graduate studies were conducted at the University of Maryland in Molecular Microbiology with an emphasis in infectious diseases and informatics. Her unique career combines a Ph.D. with 20+ years of experience in working in laboratories and leveraging data management tools, LIMS and automation. These tools enhance data quality, facilitate regulatory compliance, increase productivity, and the ability better manage laboratory data and information. She has co-authored a book on LIMS, and authored over 5 dozen scientific and LIMS and informatics articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Paszko has been helping laboratories (including cannabis labs) understand regulatory compliance requirements (ISO 17025), leverage LIMS and automation to increase productivity, throughput and profitability. This approach has helped customers to outperform competitors with best in class Laboratory Information Management Systems, Positive ID, and Automation Technology.
                    • Josh Smith
                      CEO & Chief Scientist, Premium CBD Labs, LLC
                      Biography
                        Josh Smith has spent the last decade researching alternative anti-microbial therapies in the pharmaceutical industry. In particular, he has spent most of his career developing molecular diagnostic methods and genetically modifying E. coli to prevent or kill off infections. Most recently, he worked on developing treatments for catheterized patients to guard against UTIs as well as clearing wound and skin graft sites prior to treatment. This work led to developing a patent pending new diagnostic test for identifying bacterial infections within 4 hours of receipt by the lab. His graduate degree is in clinical microbiology but, during the course of his education, he spent a large amount of time in microbial genetics, biochemistry, x-ray crystallography, and protein kinetics, particularly with the hemolysin hpmA of P. mirabilis. In 2018, Josh was approached to found Premium CBD Labs, a hemp testing laboratory located in Madison, WI. His focus is bringing the standards and ethical accountability of clinical labs to the cannabis testing industry.

                        Quality Assurance Manager (QAP), GreenSeal Cannabis Company
                        Biography
                          "As Quality Assurance Manager (QAP) for GreenSeal Cannabis Company Ltd, Cyndi Willems-Gibson ensures that incoming materials meet regulatory requirements, that plants are grown, processed and packaged according to Good Manufacturing Practices, and that all finished products meet our strict release criteria in order to protect the clients (as well as the company). In addition to this, a main focus of her role is to ensure continuous improvement of systems at the facility ensuring a premium product every time. Cyndi has more than 25 years in Manufacturing and Quality experience with a focus on creating Quality Management Systems. Previously she was the Quality Assurance Manager for one of the largest ice cream manufacturers in North America and a national distributor throughout Canada. Quality ISO Certifications, ERP implementations, Quality Monitoring Programs, Foreign Material Programs and TPM were all successfully implemented during her tenure and to that end, saw a significant reduction in consumer complaints. In addition to an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Western Ontario, Cyndi has continued her studies as a Lead Auditor/Trainer for ISO9001 and FSSC22000, GMP, HACCP, Pest Management and most recently in plant sciences. Cyndi has been married to her partner and friend Mike for 25 years and has two sons, Eric and Evan."

                          Accreditation Supervisor, American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA)
                          Biography
                            Anna Williams is an Accreditation Supervisor with the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) and has worked with the Association since September 2015. She supports the day-to-day operations of accreditation by assisting clients in obtaining and maintaining accreditation in the chemical and biological fields of testing. Anna serves as the primary staff point of contact for laboratories seeking accreditation for cannabis testing, as well as A2LA's animal health laboratory accreditation programs. She also supervises accreditation services staff working with cannabis and clinical testing laboratories. Anna has been a staff-approved lead assessor since December 2016 and performs oversights of new and veteran assessors. She serves on several cannabis industry working groups, including AOAC, ASTM, and ACIL. Anna is also a member of the Emerald Scientific Committee and Americans for Safe Access (ASA). She obtained her Six-Sigma Yellow Belt Certification in 2018 and has been formally trained as a cannabis assessor by A2LA.

                          To watch our webinars and virtual events a modern browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or an updated version of Internet Explorer is required.

                          • A minimum of 300Kbps is recommended for speaker on-video events

                          • Adobe RTMP on port 1935, 80, or 443 with automatic fall-back to RTMPT (RTMP tunneling) on ports 1935, 80 or 443
                          • RTMPE (RTMP encrypted) on ports 1935, 80 or 443

                          Work-At-Home Attendees

                          • If a corporate VPN is used, confirm that your network traffic is not directed over the company VPN. If it is, please turn off the VPN while attending the virtual event.
