      Dr. Martin Broadstock is currently an Edmond and Lily Safra Research Fellow at King's College, London. He has worked in biomedical research for the last ten years, where he investigates new therapies for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease dementia. ​
    • Caitlin Buckspan, PhD
      Postdoc, University of Florida
        Caitlin Buckspan received her B.S. in Biological Engineering from the University of Florida in 2007 and a M.S. in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2010. At the University of Florida, she researched seasonal changes in termite hormone levels, where her research relied heavily on western blots.

        Caitlin's Master's thesis focused on age-related changes in mesenchymal stem cells using a murine model. She is a current member of the Histochemical Society and the International Society for Stem Cell Research.

        Senior Research Fellow (Associate Professor) at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet & Dr Amit Zeisel, Postdoc, Department of Medical Biochemistry
          Dr Gonçalo Castelo-Branco is a Senior Research Fellow (Associate Professor) at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. Gonçalo received is PhD in Medical Biochemistry in 2005, with Prof. Ernest Arenas of the Karolinska Institutet, on development of dopaminergic neurons and neural stem differentiation. He completed post-doctoral fellowships first with Assoc. Professor Ola Hermanson (Karolinska Institutet) and then with Prof. Tony Kouzarides (University of Cambridge, United Kingdom), working in neural stem cells and pluripotent stem cells, and chromatin. Gonçalo started his lab in 2012, focusing on the molecular mechanisms defining the epigenetic state of cells of the oligodendrocyte lineage. His research group is particularly focused on how interplay between transcription factors, non-coding RNAs and chromatin modifying enzymes contributes to the transition between epigenetic states in oligodendrocyte precursor cells- with the aim to design epigenetic based-therapies to induce regeneration (remyelination) in demyelinating diseases, such as multiple sclerosis. Dr Amit Zeisel is postdoc fellow in the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. Amit received is PhD in systems biology from Weizmann Instititue of Science under the supervision of Prof. Eytan Domany. For the last three years, he has been a postdoc in the lab of Sten Linnarsson, were he developed protocols and computational tools for the analysis of single-cell RNA-seq.

            Brendan has been working at Abcam for over 5 years. He started in Scientific Support after graduate school where he earned a Master's Degree in Biology. He then moved to Inside Sales and then Field Scientific Support for the Eastern US, specifically supporting Abcam's Multiplex Assays (FirePlex).
          • John Constable, PhD
            Postdoc, University of Oregon
              John Constable has a PhD in Physiology from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom and six years postdoctoral experience at the University of Oregon. His research focused on the development and function of the neuronal synapse.

              John spent his graduate studies looking into exocystosis, and his post-doctoral years studying the process of synaptogenesis. He has used a variety of western blotting, immnuofluorescence and ELISA based applications to study these processes.

            • Jeremy Day, PhD
              Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Alabama
                Jeremy Day, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his PhD from the University of North Carolina in 2009 under Regina Carelli, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with David Sweatt at UAB.

                Jeremy joined the Neurobiology faculty at UAB in 2014, where his lab investigates the neurobiology of reward- related memory systems in the brain and the role of these circuits in motivated behaviours. His research integrates molecular, physiological, behavioral, genetic and epigenetic tools to understand how experience alters epigenetic states in the brain- with specific interest in the role of non-coding RNAs within this process.

                His ultimate goal is to manipulate epigenetic or transcriptional patterns within selected neuronal populations to achieve therapeutic outcomes from the brain diseases. His work is supported by research grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Pittman Scholars Program, and by the Evelyn McKnight Brain Institute.

              • Jackie Douglass
                MD-PhD candidate, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
                  Jackie Douglass completed bachelors' degrees in Chemical-Biological Engineering and Economics and a master's degree in Chemical Engineering Practice at MIT. She is currently an MD-PhD candidate at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is doing her PhD thesis in the lab of Bert Vogelstein. Her thesis involves using phage display to identify TCRmimic scFvs (antibody fragments) recognizing mutant peptide-HLA complexes and translating these scFvs into therapeutic formats.
                • Miriam Ferrer, PhD
                  Product Manager, Assays at Abcam
                    Miriam Ferrer, Ph. D., completed her Biology degree at the University of Barcelona (Spain) and a Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). During her PhD she worked on how to use the cisplatin sensitivity of Fanconi Anaemia cells as a potential tool for cancer therapy. She further expanded her experience in the DNA repair field working on the role of BRCA1 as E3-ubiquitin ligase during her postdoc at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge (UK).
                  • Elizabeth Glennon, PhD
                    Alzheimer's Research UK fellow, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London
                      Elizabeth (Lizzie) Glennon studied her degree in biochemistry at the University of York (UK), followed by a PhD at the Univeristy of Leeds (UK), where she studied molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease. Lizzie subsequently moved to King's College London, where she worked as a post doc investigating how a break down in axonal transport may contribute to development of Alzheimers disease. Lizzie is now an Alzheimer's Research UK fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London, where she is investigating how genes linked to Alzheimer's disease could affect the subcellular trafficking of the AD hallmark protein tau.

                        David Grotsky received his PhD in Molecular Genetics and Genomics from Washington University in St. Louis. His PhD thesis focused on studying the regulation of DNA repair factors and how they impact genomic stability and proliferation in tumor cells.

                      • Joo-Hyeon Lee, PhD
                        Principal Investigator, University of Cambridge
                          Dr Joo-Hyeon Lee was captivated by stem cell research through her PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Daesik Lim in KAIST, Korea. Following her studies, she joined the lab of Prof. Carla Kim at Harvard Medical School, where she became interested in the study of adult lung stem cells, and developed an ex vivo organoid co-culture system - which visualises lineage specification of stem cells and recapitulates the stem and stromal cell interactions of the lung.

                          Dr Lee is currently a principal investigator at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, at the University of Cambridge, UK. Together with her group, she focuses on understanding the cellular behavior and regulatory networks of adult stem and niche cells in homeostasis and regeneration.

                        • Jeremy Kasanov, PhD

                            Jeremy Kasanov has a PhD in Biology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and five years postdoctoral experience in Harvard-affiliated labs. His research focused broadly on signal transduction, where he used a variety of different ELISA assays to assist in the characterization of protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions.
                          • Carolyn Miazga, PhD
                            Research Assistant, Tufts University
                              Dr Carolyn Miazga received a BS in Biology from Boston College in 2003 and a PhD in Biology from Tufts University in 2009. Her dissertation focused on embryonic heart formation using the model system, X. laevis. Her IHC experience includes using whole-mount and tissue sections as samples and troubleshooting for both techniques.
                            • Cristina Munoz-Pinedo
                              Researcher, Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL)
                                Cristina Muñoz-Pinedo carried out her graduate studies at CSIC in Granada, Spain, where she studied how glucose regulates apoptosis induced by death receptors. She underwent postdoctoral training in Doug Green's laboratory at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.​

                                Since 2006, Cristina has been led the Cell Death Regulation Group at the Division of Molecular Oncology in the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) in Barcelona, Spain. The main interest of her team is to understand why and how cells die when deprived of nutrients in the context of cancer and brain ischemia.

                                • Andrew Oberst, PhD
                                  Assistant Professor, University of Washington's Department of Immunology
                                    Dr Andrew Oberst graduated from Amherst College in 2001. He pursued his graduate studies in Europe, in a collaborative program between the Universities of Rome and Paris, receiving his Doctorate in 2006.

                                    Andrew completed his postdoctoral training at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, and in 2012 he joined the University of Washington's Department of Immunology as an Assistant Professor. Dr Oberst's research focuses on understanding the pathways of programmed cell death, and how different forms of cell death are perceived by the immune system.

                                    General Manager - Platform Innovation, Abcam Inc.
                                      Dr. Daniel Pregibon is the technical founder of Abcam's Firefly® Platform, serving as Abcam's General Manager of Platform Innovation. Dr. Pregibon received his Ph.D. from MIT's Department of Chemical Engineering under the guidance of Drs. Patrick Doyle (MIT) and Mehmet Toner (Harvard/MGH), where he discovered and co-developed Flow Lithography - the technology at the core of the Firefly® Platform. Prior to joining Abcam, he was the President and Chief Technology Officer at Firefly BioWorks, Inc., a start-up that explored the use of the platform for miRNA biomarker validation.
                                    • George Prendergast, PhD
                                      Professor, President and CEO, Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, Editor-in-Chief, Cancer Research, AACR
                                        Dr Prendergast received his PhD in Molecular Biology from Princeton University. Following postdoctoral work at HHMI and Merck Research Laboratories, he was appointed to the faculty of The Wistar Institute as a Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences.

                                        In 1999, Dr Prendergast became Senior Director of Cancer Research at DuPont Pharmaceuticals. In 2002, his research groups moved from Wistar and DuPont to the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research outside Philadelphia, where he is currently Professor, President and CEO. In 2010, Dr Prendergast was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Cancer Research, the AACR flagship journal, and the most highly cited journal in the field.

                                          Tom Ruyle joined Abcam's Scientific Support team in 2006 to help customers choose and work with antibodies for immunohistochemistry and other applications.​​​ Tom received a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts while studying markers of leukocyte differentiation in Dr. Eric Martz's lab. During several years in the biotech industry, Tom applied histology and IHC techniques while researching protein replacement and gene therapies for lysosomal storage disorders. Before moving back to Massachusetts to join Abcam, Tom worked with Dr. Thomas Lee at Columbia University, where he investigated the signaling pathways implicated in ischemia reperfusion injury.
                                        • Ina Schulte, PhD
                                          Cancer Research, Genetics, Immunology, University of Cambridge
                                            Dr. Ina Schulte has a MS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany, and a PhD from the University of Essen-Duisburg in Germany. Her flow cytometry experience includes surface staining, as well as intracellular cytokine staining, and troubleshooting for both techniques. ​
                                          • Alejandra Solache
                                            Head of Reagents Product Development and Manufacturing, Abcam

                                              Dr Alejandra Solache joined Abcam in 2013 as Head Reagents Product Development and Manufacturing globally. She is responsible for managing the output of the Abcam Cambridge, Hangzhou and Bristol laboratories, specifically the New Product Development, Core reagents and R&D. She also plays a key role in developing Abcam’s innovation strategy.

                                              Prior to joining Abcam she held various positions at EMD-Millipore, latterly as R&D Director, leading the Antibody and Assay Development teams. She gained expertise in Immunology, cell signaling and cell biology through postdoctoral fellowships at UCSF and the Trudeau Institute.

                                                Jean Paul Thiery is currently Research Director Emeritus at the Institut Gustave Roussy Comprehensive Cancer Center at Villejuif, and at the CNRS unit Matter and Complex Systems in Paris, France, as well as a Visiting Professor at the School of Medicine of National University of Singapore (NUS), and at CCBIO University of Bergen, Norway.

                                                Jean Paul serves as a Scientific Advisor of the Dean of Medical School NUS, Singapore, and in a number of other Institutions worldwide. He was until June 2015, Professor and Head of the Biochemistry Department, School of Medicine at NUS. He has also served a joint appointment as Research Director at IMCB A*STAR Singapore, and Senior Principal Investigator at the Cancer Science Institute at NUS.

                                                Jean Paul is credited as the first to propose that EMT control invasion and dissemination while the reverse process, MET, is required for the development of clinically detectable metastases in carcinoma. His current research's focus is to unravel the mechanisms of invasion and metastasis of carcinoma cells, while his seminal contributions to bladder carcinoma studies have led to the discovery of the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation of superficial or invasive tumors. Currently, his research is focusing on oncogenomics and the creation of functional approaches to characterize bladder, lung breast, and ovarian carcinoma progression- with the ultimate goal to apply EMT-based therapeutic approaches in the near future.

                                                He is an EMBO and Academia Europea member. He has been made Chevalier (Knight) in the order the Legion d'Honneur , the highest distinction in France, in 2009.

                                              • Javier Vancells, PhD
                                                Postdoc, University of Texas at Austin
                                                  Javier completed his PhD at the University of the Basque Country studying exosomes as a platform for the discovery of non-invasive biomarkers for liver diseases. Javier subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the University of Texas at Austin, where he worked towards the development of high-throughput in vitro assays using stem cells for toxicity assessment of pharmaceutical and environmental chemicals. In his eight years of research experience, Javier published several peer-reviewed publications and gained considerable expertise in multiple technologies commonly used in molecular biology such as cellular imaging and flow cytometry.
                                                • Philipp Voigt, PhD

                                                    Dr Philipp Voigt received both his undergraduate and PhD degrees in Biochemistry from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. For his thesis work, Philipp studied phosphoinositide 3-kinase gamma, a lipid and protein kinase controlling inflammatory processes. After receiving his PhD in 2007, he switched fields by joining the laboratory of Dr. Danny Reinberg at NYU School of Medicine, where he worked on the mechanisms of gene repression by Polycomb group proteins and nucleosomal asymmetry between 2008-2014. In late 2014, Philipp joined the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology at the University of Edinburgh as a Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale career development Fellow. Work in his lab focuses on understanding how the Polycomb and Trithorax systems of histone modifiers interact to regulate gene expression in stem cells, especially in the context of bivalent domains.
